“Nate” is a 2022 AQHA buckskin gelding with the kind of pedigree that built the modern ranch horse. He is sired by Sun Joaker Lolly, a son of PC Sun Joaker, carrying the legendary Sun Frost bloodlines that are known for producing athletic, gritty, good minded horses that can go all day and stay sound doing it. On the bottom side, he goes back to Dont Doc breeding, adding even more proven cow sense and using horse foundation to the mix.
On top of being bred right, this gelding is absolutely GORGEOUS. He is so dark, he goes grulla to the eye, but genetically a buckskin. Big soft eye, clean made, pretty headed, and colored exactly how everyone wants one. He’s the kind that turns heads the second he steps off the trailer. Did we mention he is 15.1 hands?
This gelding has had the same owner from weanling until we purchased him as a 4 year old, and that kind of consistency shows in him. He’s been handled correctly his whole life and has a quiet, trustworthy way about him that is getting harder and harder to find in young horses.
He rides around soft and willing, travels out confidently, and has the kind of easygoing personality that makes him enjoyable every single day. He goes around both ways in the arena, sets his head, and knows his leads. He has had ropes thrown off of him, tarps flapped over him, and yoga balls bounced off of him. I get it, that doesn’t “make a horse” – but knowing they are tolerant of some chaos really does say something.
Outside is where this gelding really shines. He’ll go down the trail exactly how you want one to, crossing rough country, handling hills, and going wherever you point him without making things complicated. He’s the kind you can saddle up and simply enjoy. Last summer, the grandkids rode him through the Black Hills, which says a lot about the kind of mind he had even as a 3 year old. He’s quiet, safe, and level headed without being dull.
