“Frostie” is a BIG 5-year-old AQHA palomino mare that checks an awful lot of boxes. Gorgeous to look at, incredibly kind, and broke enough that just about anyone can enjoy her, she’s the type of horse that’s getting harder and harder to find.
She is sired by Dillon Keepsake, a son of PC Dillion Oaks, and out of a daughter of Lightning Bar Frost, making her stacked with proven Pitzer Ranch and PC breeding throughout her papers. Names like PC Dillion Oaks, PC Cisco Frost, Docs Oaks Sugar, and Bill’s Rock have built a reputation for producing horses with good minds, athletic ability, and the kind of durability that ranch horse people have appreciated for generations. If you know anything about this breeding: these horses rope, they run barrels, they sort cows, they work on the ranch, and they will do all of it in the same day.
This mare stands every bit of a true 15 hands, and weighs in atleast 1200 lbs. I actually purchased this mare from one of my best friends, who owns and operates a successful lesson program. When someone who puts beginner riders on horses every day chooses to keep one around their barn, that says a lot about the horse. After spending time with her myself, it didn’t take long to understand why.
She’s the kind of mare that gives you confidence. She’ll ride quietly away from the barn by herself, head down the road, cross obstacles without hesitation, and take new places in stride. Whether you’re riding through the woods, around the farm, or just enjoying a quiet evening on the trail, she’s the same dependable mare every time you saddle her. Her 11 year old daughter rode her regularly around the farm in every direction.
In the arena, she’s equally enjoyable. This mare rides with a bridle, and without one. She lopes off correctly in both directions, sidepasses, moves willingly off your leg, stays soft in the bridle, and rides one-handed with ease. What really sets her apart, though, is the horse she is. She is sound, safe, sensible, and willing, with a disposition that makes her enjoyable for just about anyone. She is not the kind of mare that needs an experienced rider to manage her or a job that fits her perfectly. She is the kind you can put a beginner on, hand the reins to the kids, or have an experienced rider take and continue putting miles and buttons on. She has the mind and demeanor to give a rider confidence while still being versatile enough to go on and do whatever her next owner has in mind.
She would make an excellent family horse, trail partner, ranch horse, or all around using horse. She is the mare you can saddle up when you want to take the family out for an afternoon ride, load up for a weekend trail trip, or put to work around the ranch. She handles new situations with a level headed attitude and has the kind of honest, dependable personality that makes you look forward to riding her.
On the ground, she’s every bit as nice as she is under saddle. She’s the first one to meet you at the gate, loves attention, stands quietly tied, trailers well, and is simply enjoyable to be around. She’s the kind of horse that makes ownership easy. Whether you’re looking for a dependable trail horse, a ranch riding partner, or simply a safe, broke mare the whole family can enjoy, don’t overlook this mare.
