Maplewood Swede

“Swede” is a 2021 AQHA dun mare sired by Sakem Speedywood (Dakota Drift x Peppy Barita), grandson of the great Wilywood. Her dam, Swedes Finest Bonnet, is a daughter of Blue Bonnet Berry who had lifetime earnings of over $40,000, out of the mare IR Tiger Dun It, going back to Hollywood Dun It! Her pedigree is loaded with OLD school cow sense, athletic ability, and a solid work ethic.

Swede is the kind that checks a lot of boxes—she’s the right age, the right color, and has the right mind to go any direction you want. She was started right and goes around both ways in the arena. She’s quiet-minded, easy to handle, and willing to try whatever you point her at.
She’s been ridden outside of an arena and inside of one. In the arena, she’s soft in the face, responsive to your leg, and learning to move her shoulders, hips, and ribcage. She lopes off both directions without a fuss and feels balanced underneath you. This is the clean slate prospect people have been buying from me for years. Pick a job, put her on it, and finish her out the way you like. The hard work is done.

Outside of the arena she has crossed water, ridden through our woods, out in the cow pasture, and in ditches by the road. She’s been around dogs, tractors, tarps, ropes—you name it—and handles it all with a level head. She’s the type that doesn’t get rattled, takes new things in stride, and just wants to please.

Swede has the foundation, mind, and build to be finished your way—whether you want a rope horse, barrel horse, ranch versatility mare, or a handy all-around partner that’s the same every ride. If you’re looking for a rope horse prospect, she’s got the size, bone, and substance to step into the box one day. She’s athletic enough to get across the pen but has the mind to stay cool and focused.
