“Cash”” is a 2022 AQHA black gelding by First Down Illusion (LTE: $500,547), a son of the legendary First Down Dash, one of the most influential race horse sires of all time. On the bottom side, he is out of an earning daughter of Pappasito (SI 96), a multiple graded stakes sire and proven producer of elite race horses. Add in names like Corona Cartel, Dash For Cash, and Merridoc, and this guy has money earners and producers in every part of his pedigree.
This guy is the kind people stop and stare at. Standing every bit of 15.3 hands, this guy is as black as they come. Black is simply a color that just, never goes out of style. No fading, no sunburnt coat. He is just a true jet-black gelding with a big frame, plenty of bone, and the kind of presence that’s hard to miss. If you’re looking for one with size, color, and pedigree, this guy checks all three boxes.
This gelding earned just shy of $6,000 on the racetrack before retiring and beginning his second career under a stock saddle. Since coming off the track, he has transitioned exceptionally well. He rides around quietly at the walk, trot, and lope in both directions, naturally wants to break at the poll, and has the kind of willing attitude that makes him enjoyable every day. He’s easy to catch, easy to be around, and has settled into life outside the racing world exactly how you’d hope.
He carries himself with a big, ground-covering stride and has all the athletic ability you’d expect from a horse with this kind of breeding. This guy could go right into the barrel pen, has enough size for the head side, or take him and simply enjoy him to just ride at home. Whether you’re looking for a barrel prospect, a head horse prospect trail partner, or simply a gorgeous gelding with elite race bloodlines and a solid foundation under saddle, this guy will fit your bill. Did we mention he is black?
The only fault in this gelding is that we do notice he chews on his feeder window when he is inside full time. He does not seem to suck hard and pull back heavy, but honestly? We aren’t sure if he is trying. The track trainer who had him for 3 years told us he doesn’t crib. We put on a cribbing collar on him to be cautious, and we have had no issues noticing him actually sucking back. We are selling him as a “we think he is a controlled cribber but he might not actually crib”. No other way to put it. If he didn’t do this, he’d be almost double the price.
Please call, ask questions, or set up an appointment to FaceTime us and meet this guy. We’d love to tell you about him.
